In 2006, it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Many Indy 500-winning cars are on display. Glassworks brings glass artists and galleries together, allowing you to see the procedures & techniques used to produce hand-blown glass creations. There is a short video presentation and a chance to see flame-working, glassblowing and architectural/stained glass studios. (10:15 11:15 AM) 11:30 AM - Weve got a relaxing and scenic lunch* planned for you aboard the Spirit of Jefferson*. The Spirit of Jefferson may not be as famous or as historic as a certain other Louisville riverboat, but the Spirit of Jefferson offers you a very different view of the Ohio River and does so in comfort and style. The Spirit, sister to the venerable Belle of Louisville, offers heated and air-conditioned indoor seating as well as seating on its picturesque decks. Best of all, perhaps, the Spirit of Jefferson plies the lower Ohio River west of downtown and past the locks and dam, where the river takes on a wilder and more rugged look. Granted, the Spirit of Jefferson is not an authentic turn-of-the-20th century sternwheel paddleboat like the 648-seat Belle of Louisville, which has cruised the Ohio River since 1914. The Spirit is a replica made in 1963 and originally christened the Mark Twain. (Board @ 11:30 a.m., Cruise @ Noon, dock @ 2:00 PM) 2:15 PM -We disembark the Belle and depart for the short drive to Bardstown, KY our home for the next 2 nights. 3:15 PM - Arriving in Bardstown, we check into the Hampton Inn* with time to relax before our evening event. 6:00 PM - Tonight were off to the Old Stable Inn where youll enjoy a delicious dinner and some great entertainment*. The Old Stable Inn has been around for years and has entertained millions of people with their hilarious antics and their blue-grass music. (6:00 9:00 PM) Day #3 Wednesday, August 11th: Continental Breakfast* is served at the hotel this morning. 8:30 AM - Our Step-on Guide, Dixie Hibbs* meets us at the hotel for a day of exploring Bardstown. Well see such places as St. Josephs Cathedral, the Jailers Inn, Keene Country Ham, tour My Old Kentucky Home, enjoy Lunch* (finger foods) at Wickland, enjoy dinner* at the Old Talbot Tavern and Stephen Foster The Musical*. 10:30 PM - Approximate return time to the hotel. Day #4 Thursday, August 12th: Another Continental Breakfast* awaits us at the hotel this morning. 8:00 AM - Its time to check out, board the coach and depart for Louisville for one more tour before we depart for home. 9:00 AM - We arrive in Louisville at the Louisville Slugger Museum for a tour*. The first Louisville Slugger baseball bat was made by Andrew "Bud" Hillerich in 1884. Appropriately enough, the entrance to the museum is distinguished by a 120-foot, 68,000 pound steel version of his creation. You can view collections of baseball memorabilia before moving on to the Hillerich & Bradsby Co. manufacturing facility to see bats being produced. A short film presentation, interactive exhibits and batting cages are available. While here youll receive a souvenir "Mini Bat"* to take with you and weve also purchased a Box Lunch* for you to enjoy. (9:00 AM Noon includes time to enjoy lunch) Noon - Its just a short drive to our next stop in Martinsville, IN. Relax and enjoy the ride. 2:00 PM - We arrive in Martinsville at Homestead Primitives for a tour*. Homestead is a mother/daughter business with a unique mix of arts & antiques. Located in an 1880s farmhouse, they have an artist on site to give you a short informative program on the history & uses of gourds. Weve even arranged for you to "take home" a gift from this unique attraction. (2:00 3:30 PM) 3:30 PM - Were off for home with a stop at The Beef House for Dinner*.
