Other Multi-Day Tour - 4 Days / 3 Nights August 18 - 21, 2008

Day #1 - Monday, August 18th:

6:30 AM - Meet your escort at Peoria Charter Coach waiting room at the corner of NE Adams & Alexander Streets.

6:45 AM - Depart Peoria headed east to Fair Oaks, Indiana. We'll enjoy a Continental Breakfast* on board the coach as we travel. We'll also make rest stops along the way as needed.

10:00 AM - Our first stop will be at Fair Oaks Dairy Farm* where we'll enjoy a delicious Lunch* and an informative tour*. The "Adventure" as we like to call it consists of a 3D/4D movie, the interactive area, Stewarts of the Land exhibit hall, Mrs. Cowhoun's Cowculus Class, Diva Hallway, the cheese & ice cream production plant, the birthing center and a 45-minute bus tour into one of the largest working dairies in the United States. (Fair Oaks, Indiana is still on Central Time)

1:00 PM - Back aboard our own coach, we're off to LaFayette, Indiana. Relax and enjoy the ride. Don't forget to set your watches ahead an hour as we enter the Eastern Time Zone.

3:00 PM - Arriving in LaFayette, we'll stop at Clay Critters for a tour*. Clay Critters was created in 1978 when Rebecca Bollinger turned a hobby into a business. She worked out of her home at first making each "critter" by hand from baking soda and salt clay. Later she began using polymer-clay and added craft workers. She currently employs 18 workers and uses molds and a polymer-clay liquid to create the critters sold. You'll have time to visit the gift shop and take home a "Critter" of your own. (3:00 - 4:00 PM)

4:00 PM - Following Clay Critters, Rachel (our Step-on Guide) will take us on a "riding tour*" of the downtown area and community before we arrive at our home for the night.

5:00 PM - We arrive at our home for the night the Best Western LaFayette Executive Plaza*. You'll have a short amount of time to freshen up prior to departing for dinner.

6:00 PM - We re-board the coach and depart for Sarah's Oaks Restaurant where we'll enjoy a delicious Dinner*. This 1800's farm home serves bountiful family style meals. Tonight we'll enjoy baked pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and chef's choice of another vegetable, assorted salads, bread & butter, dessert, iced tea, lemonade & coffee. (Dinner is served at 6:30 PM)

8:00 PM - Approximate return time to the hotel.

Day #2 - Tues., August 19th::

7:00 AM - The All American Breakfast Buffet* awaits you to get your day started off on a good note.

9:30 AM - This morning we'll split the group in 1/2 and flip flop two attractions as each one can't accommodate more than 25 people at one time. Our first group will visit Emma's Exotic Eggs*. Be spiritually uplifted by Emma's presentation of her collection of decorative eggs. Each egg has been painted, cut, or otherwise decorated to make everything from necklaces to ornaments to photo albums. Emma has crafted over 9,000 decorated eggs ranging in price from $10 to $350, all with either historical or spiritual relevance.

The remainder of the group will be transported about 15 minutes away to Weckmuller Fine Chocolate & Candies for a tour*. Discover how chocolate really should taste. Hand-made in Kosciusko County, Weckmuller Fine Chocolates & Candies are the best around. Watch the demonstration on how these delectable treats are made and go home with a sample.

The groups will then switch attractions so that everyone gets to enjoy both.

2:30 PM - We'll pickup a Box Lunch* to enjoy on our ride to Shipshewana, Indiana.

1:30 PM - Upon arrival in Shipshewana, our first stop will be at the Hoosier Buggy Shop where you'll tour* this unique buggy shop and experience the art of carriage making at this Amish owned business. Next we'll stop at Lambright Chimes*, talk with this Amish crafter where these beautiful Biblical Chimes are made with care; designed with their own unique sound. After the chimes we'll continue with an Amish Backroads Adventure*. We'll visit several Amish Cottage Shops, watch a demonstration on noodle making; along the way we'll stop off at the many little Quilters businesses and see the beautiful designs and intricate work. On our way back to town we'll stop off at the Duetsch Kase Haus where we'll sample some of the many kinds of cheese made at this long running factory. Take a view through the observation window and see the massive machinery that creates all these flavors.

5:00 PM - Our touring ends at the Farmstead Inn* where we'll overnight. You'll have time to freshen up before our unique evening.

7:00 PM - This evening we'll enjoy a Cooking Class & Dinner in an Amish Home*. Carolyn Yoder will share a few secrets to some fabulous cooking, give a few recipes to everyone, and afterwards you'll enjoy a delicious meal*. A family-style dinner with all the fixings & fresh mouth-watering pies will be served making you feel like Kings & Queens!

9:30 PM - Approximate return time to the hotel for the evening.

Day #3 - Wednesday, August 20th:

Complimentary Continental Breakfast* is served at the hotel before we check out and enjoy more touring.

9:00 AM - This morning we'll be offering you time to shop in downtown Shipshewana or visit the Flea Market. Lunch is on your own today while shopping.
Noon - Before we depart Shipshewana, we'll enjoy a tour* of Menno Hof Visitors Center. See where the Anabaptists had their beginning in a Swiss courtyard and how they were persecuted for their faith in the dungeon. Travel with the Anabaptists down the cobblestone streets of Holland and board a 17th century sailing boat on a journey to America and freedom. (Noon - 1:00 PM)

1:00 PM - We're off to Nappanee, Indiana - home to Amish Acres! Relax and enjoy the ride.

2:15 PM - Arriving in Nappanee, our first stop will be at Amish Acres*. Here you'll enjoy two documentary films on the Amish way of life, a walking tour of the facility, a tour of an Amish Home located right here on property and a buggy ride of the property*. There are also plenty of gift shops here to purchase souvenirs.

4:30 PM - It's time to check into our home for the night - the Inn at Amish Acres*. You'll have time to freshen up prior to our evening dinner & show.

6:00 PM - This evening you'll enjoy a Thresher's Dinner*, featuring a variety of Amish dishes served family-style in the Barn Restaurant.

7:30 PM - It's just a short stroll over to the Round Barn Theater for the evening production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's favorite musical, Carousel*. The love story of Billy Bigelow, who is allowed to return to earth for one day after taking his own life, and the sense of hope and dignity that he instills in his wife Julie Jordan and their child is perhaps Oscar Hammerstein's greatest literary feat. Combined with the music by Richard Rodgers and original dances by Agnes de Mille, the adaptation of Ferenc Molnar's play Liliom, is a seamless piece of American Broadway musical theatre at the height of its Golden Era. "If I Loved You, "June is Bustin' Out All Over, and "You'll Never Walk Alone" are simply perfect pieces of musical theatre. (8:00 PM Show)

10:00 PM - Approximate return time to the hotel for the evening.

Day #4 - Thursday, August 21st:

Enjoy Continental Breakfast* at the hotel this morning.

8:30 AM - We check out, board the coach and depart for a Working Amish Farm for a tour*. Once again the group will be split in 1/2 and one group will start by touring the farm while the other goes into the orchard and cider press area. Then we'll switch so everyone gets to enjoy this unique experience. There is also a small shop with homemade jams, jellies and apple butter available for purchase. (9:00 - 10:30 A.M.)

10:30 AM - As we make our way towards home, we'll make a stop in Elkhart, Indiana at the American Countryside Farmers Market.

11:00 AM - We arrive in Elkhart and you'll have time to shop and get some fresh food to take home with you. Lunch is on your own while here today.

1:00 PM - Let's depart for home taking with us our newfound education on the history of the Amish Communities. We'll make rest & meal stops along the way as we travel. Don't forget to set your watches back an hour as we re-enter the Central Time Zone.

5-5:30 PM - Approximate return time to Peoria.
