Day #2 - Friday, December 5th: Hot Breakfast Buffet* is included at the hotel this morning. 8:00 AM - We're off for a tour* of the Rouge Factory*. Enjoy a narrated driving tour past famous landmarks and behind the scenes of this massive manufacturing complex. Learn about the triumphs and tragedies surrounding the Rouge, much of it told through rare, never-before-seen historic footage. A virtual reality theater will provide you with a 360-degree look at how automobiles are made! View the world's largest living roof from our 80-foot-high Observation Deck. See where the new Ford F-150s are assembled in a new lean and flexible manufacturing plant. You'll have the opportunity to view the final assembly process from an elevated walkway. (Tour time is 9:00 - 11:30 AM) 11:30 AM - We're dropped off at the Henry Ford Museum where you'll have time to enjoy lunch on your own and tour* the museum at your leisure. It began as one man's vision to document the genius of ordinary people by preserving the objects they used in the course of their everyday lives. It grew to become one of the largest collections of its kind ever assembled - a remarkable destination that brings American ideas and innovations to life. (11:30 - 2:30 PM) 3:00 PM - We return to the hotel to freshen up & warm up before we return to Greenfield Village for the evening. 5:00 PM - We arrive back at Greenfield Village for Holiday Nights. Enjoy a delicious Dinner Buffet* before we relive the fond memories of the comfort & joy of Christmases past. Lit by the soft glow of hundreds of lanterns, this after-dark experience is an enchanted evening not to be missed, as houses are open to explore 300 years of American Holiday Traditions. Holiday nights includes a turn-of-the-century tree lot, ice skating (skates available on site), authentically decorated homes, carriage or sleigh rides, carolers, musicians, live reindeer, Santa & Mrs. Claus, shopping and more. The night concludes with a community sing-a-long on the Village Green & fireworks. (5:00 - ??? PM) Day #3 - Saturday, December 6th: Another Hot Breakfast Buffet* awaits us before another day of exploring this fantastic city. Following breakfast you have a little time to relax before we head out to our first attraction of the day. 9:15 AM - Let's board our awaiting coach and depart for Lionel Trains for a tour*. Upon arrival you'll view a 10-minute video on the production process and a brief history of the company. You'll see a 14x40-foot operating layout with ten trains running simultaneously and accessories that you can operate by pushbutton. The center houses a 52-foot-long display of artifacts tracing Lionel's history since it's founding in 1900. The center also features a 6x8-foot children's layout, where kids get to run the trains themselves! (10 - 11:00 AM) 11:45 AM - Next we'll tour* the Walter P. Chrysler Museum for their Cars, Trees & Tradition exhibit. Step back in time with a nostalgic look back at eight decades of holiday style. Enjoy trees authentically decorated from the early 1900's - 1980's, paired with vehicles of those eras. Celebrate the seasons past with period advertisements, imagery and trimmings. (11:45 - 12:45 PM) 1:00 PM - Arriving at Meadow Brook Hall, you'll take pleasure in a beautiful lunch* and enjoy each other's company in a magnificent setting. Holiday merriment & good food have always gone hand in hand. Join Meadow Brook Hall as they celebrate the smells, sweets and savories of the season at this 110-room Tudor-revival style mansion all aglow with historic and holiday treasures during the 37th annual Holiday Walk*. (1 - 3:00 PM) 3:30 PM - We arrive back at the hotel with time to freshen up before our evening on the town. 5:30 PM - Dinner* is included this evening at Sweet Lorraine's Restaurant. Sweet Lorraine's roots can be traced back to, of all things, a cheesecake! After outgrowing her kitchen, a Deli was opened and now a full service restaurant. Enjoy your meal! 7:00 PM - Our evening ends at the historical Fox Theater* for a fantastic evening Christmas performance (to be determined). The Detroit Fox is the largest of the Fox Theaters. Built in 1928 for William Fox, founder of 20th Century Fox, it was the first movie palace to have live sound. The architect, C. Howard Crane, designed a lavish interior blend of Burmese, Chinese, Indian & Persian motifs. The exterior of the 10-story building features an Art Deco faÁade, which at night is illuminated and can be seen for several blocks. The Fox is Detroit's top venue for Broadway shows. (7:00 - 10:00 P.M.) Day #4 - Sunday, December 7th: Get your morning started with a Hot Breakfast Buffet* before we strike out for home. 8:00 AM - It's time to board the coach and depart for home with visions of fun times in Detroit dancing in your head!
