Day #2 - Monday, September 15th: Continental Breakfast* is included this morning before we continue eastward. 8:00 AM - We check out, board our awaiting coach and depart for Kill Devil Hill, North Carolina. We'll make rest & meal stops as we journey east. 6:00 PM - We arrive in Kill Devil Hill for the next 4 nights. Our hotel is located right on the beach so you'll have time to enjoy the ocean. Day #3 - Tuesday, September 16th: Breakfast* awaits you this morning before we depart for a day of touring. Today we'll tour* Roanoke Island where in 1585 the English tried to establish their first New World colony at Roanoke Island. We'll visit Elizabethan Gardens* which was re-created to a 16th-Century formal English garden that has antique statuaries, period furniture, rose & herb beds, indigenous shrubs, trees & flowers. Fort Raleigh National Historic Site* is located on Roanoke Island and was rebuilt in 1587. In 1590 when John White returned, he found no trace of the colonists and theory has it that this is the "Lost Colony". We'll visit Roanoke Island Festival Park* and enjoy a seafood dinner* before we enjoy a "behind the scenes tour*" of the Lost Colony Outdoor drama*. Then, we'll take our seats for the performance. This symphonic outdoor drama retells the story of the 1585 settlement on Roanoke Island. Day #4 - Wednesday, September 17th: Breakfast* is included this morning before we enjoy another day exploring this magnificent area. This morning we're off to Cape Hatteras National Seashore for a tour*. Covering approximately 45 square miles on North Carolina's Outer Banks, Cape Hatteras National Seashore is the most extensive stretch of undeveloped seashore on the Atlantic Coast. Except for a few villages on the islands, the national recreation area includes Ocracoke and Hatteras Islands and part of Bodie Island. We'll visit the Bodie Island & Cape Hatteras Lighthouse* which is the tallest brick structure in the United States at 208-feet. The renovated lighthouse warns ships away from Diamond Shoals, the "Graveyard of the Atlantic". A balcony, perched at the top of a 268-step climb, offers an observation point. Enjoy a picnic lunch* on Ocracoke Island followed by a stop at the Visitor's Center*. Ocracoke Island is a fishing village adjacent to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Built mainly around Silver Lake, the houses were laid out with Old World irregularity along sandy streets overhung with moss-covered oaks & yaupon. Ocracoke is known to have been a hangout of Edward Teach, alias Blackbeard; the notorious pirate and his crew were killed at Teach's Hole in 1718. While here we'll see the lighthouse* and enjoy dinner* at a local restaurant. Day #5 - Thursday, September 18th: Another Breakfast* awaits you this morning before we enjoy another day of touring. We begin our day with a Dolphin Watching Cruise*. We set out into the ocean where we'll get a glimpse of the natural habitat of area dolphins. What beautiful mammals they are. Next we'll visit the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kitty Hawk*. The Wright Memorial Shaft was dedicated in 1932 to Wilbur & Orville Wright "in commemoration of the conquest of air". The first sustained flights by a heavier-than-air powered machine were made nearby on Dec. 17th, 1903. The visitor's center exhibit contains reproductions of the 1902 glider and 1903 flyer. The grounds have markers showing the distance traveled during the first four flights as well as replicas of the Wright Brothers workshop & living quarters. Today we'll enjoy a Kite Making Class and flight lessons*. What a great time you'll have seeing your creations actually fly! Dinner* is included at the hotel this evening. Day #6 - Friday, September 19th: Breakfast* is included this morning before we begin our journey home. 7:00 AM - It's time to say good-bye to the East Coast and begin our journey west towards home. We'll make rest & meal stops along the way to our overnight stop. 7:00 PM - Upon arrival in St. Clairesville, Ohio, we'll enjoy a delicious dinner* at a local restaurant and then we'll check into our home for the night.
